Ceasefire Between Israel & Iran: Gulf Reaction, Kremlin Support & Expert Insight

🌍 Ceasefire Reached: What It Means for the Gulf and Beyond

With a war they “did not want” on their doorstep, Gulf nations are gripped by “fear,” said Greg Carlstrom, Middle East correspondent at The Economist, in a recent CNN interview. The ceasefire between Israel and Iran, described as “remarkable,” was brokered with unprecedented speed.

“I can’t think of another time when a country has been attacked and then turns around the next morning and brokers a ceasefire involving the country that attacked it and another country,” Carlstrom observed. The move reflects the “deep unease” felt across Gulf nations — especially in Qatar, where missile fragments fell dangerously close to public areas.

According to Carlstrom, these Gulf states have long positioned themselves as islands of stability in an unstable region — a role now shaken by rising tensions. The ceasefire is viewed as a necessary buffer to avoid further escalation.

🇷🇺 Kremlin’s Response

The Kremlin welcomed the news, calling it “a step in the right direction.” Following Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, “This is what the Russian Federation has been calling for from the very beginning of this conflict.”

He further noted, “We hope that this will be a sustainable ceasefire.” Russia has consistently condemned US strikes on Iranian facilities and reaffirmed its support for Tehran during Monday’s diplomatic meeting.

Peskov denied reports from Reuters that a letter from Ayatollah Khamenei was hand-delivered but acknowledged that “messages were conveyed.” Russia reaffirmed that the Iranian response to US attacks was not discussed in detail.
